Impact Investment: A Catalyst for Economic Growth in Vietnam

On April 20, in Hanoi, the seminar “Impact Investment: A Catalyst for Economic Growth in Vietnam” was jointly organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC) and the Mitsubishi Research Institute (MRI). This event was part of the series celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, as well as a key activity under the InnovateVN Initiative launched by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in response to the World Creativity and Innovation Day (April 21).

The seminar gathered participation from central and local government agencies in Vietnam, the Embassy of Japan, international organizations such as JICA and JETRO, along with enterprises, investment funds, and startups from both countries. The program aimed to build a strong network between Vietnamese and Japanese impact-driven startups, and to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration through guidance and insights from Japanese investors.

Impact investment is recognized as a key driver of Vietnam’s economic growth. Beyond enhancing labor productivity, it also contributes significantly to socio-economic development. Among various sectors, industrial development has attracted the most impactful investments. With supportive policies, Vietnam has successfully drawn foreign investors into industrial zones and export processing areas, creating jobs, improving productivity, and fueling national growth. Additionally, impact investments in tourism, education, renewable energy, and transportation have brought about positive changes for both the economy and society.

Another important aspect of impact investment is its role in deepening Vietnam’s global economic integration. By attracting capital from developed countries, Vietnam gains access to advanced technologies, modern management systems, and international standards, which collectively enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in global markets.
